I am speechless. This is one of the most awesome handsets I've ever seen!

Today I got a really (and I mean really :D) interesting e-mail from someone seeming to be one of our readers. The e-mail mentioned some warm words about our blog and contained one very interesting picture. Is this a leaked (or spy) photo of the upcoming handset from Sony Ericsson?

To me, this device seems to be a high-end handset from the XPERIA line.

To be honest, when I first saw this photo, I thought that it was not yet announced Paris (Sony Ericsson P5) and my gladness had no borders. I've been waiting for P5 for quite long, but the device on the photo is obviously a new High-End XPERIA handset!... And this is why I think so.

First off all, I think you'll agree that the whole look of the handset resembles that of the recently announced Sony Ericsson X1. Second, it's obviously based on Windows Mobile OS. The picture on the screen speaks the same... And I think Paris (Sony Ericsson P5) or Sony Ericsson's other smartphone from P series will be based on Symbian UIQ and not WM.

So let's look at the photo and consider it.

Look at this HUGE screen, it's much bigger than X1's and believe me - the screen of the X1 is big :) and its obviously touchscreen.

As you can see, the form factor of the device is horizontal slider (Like Sony Ericsson X1) and there are no buttons on the front side of the phone!!! This means that the screen is touch sensitive and it doesn't need buttons (Like iPhone, wow). The capture on the screen is unknown to me. As I know, X1 has a different UI, at least this one is different from that, which was shown on the presentation of the handset. But the opened tabs are almost the same as on X1 screen, which was shown on the 3GSM.

The keyboard pretty much looks like that of X1, but if we take a closer look, we can notice a little thing on the right side of the keyboard (Look at the #1 mark on the picture). Frankly, I don't have the slightest idea what it is. Maybe a "scroll" button? Or at least I hope so :D Scroll would be great...

Unfortunately I can't see the front camera or the whole left side of the front view, or back view of the phone to tell with which camera is equipped this miracle, but I guess, after those visible specifications, which we can see on this leaked photo, Sony Ericsson never dares to put bad camera, I think there will be at least 5MP one, with Auto Focus.

OK, and at last words about this photo. To be honest, in my own opinion, this phone is too good to be true. At a moment I think that this picture is another fake, but it's so realistic that it's really difficult to be sure. Either way, bravo to the creator of the photo or to the creator of the device. If this is a real device and the one that can be released anytime soon, then not only will this device be iPhone killer, it can be a killer of every high end handset!!! Of course, this assumption is based on the look as I have no idea what the specifications are.

If we manage to get more pictures of the device, we will post them as a follow up.

As always, our readers' comments are welcome.

It looks like that the present classification of the Sony Ericsson's entire product range is getting old and if we are to believe to various web sources, Sony Ericsson has decided to change it.

The name format will be same, one letter and three numbers (K800, M600, G900...) but the weird naming will be changed with a new, more logical scheme.

The upcoming phones won't carry the typical "i" in the end of the handset names, good example and first handsets of it is the new handsets from Radio line - Sony Ericsson R300 and Sony Ericsson R306.
New scheme is shown on the picture above on the example of of the the new smartphone Sony Ericsson G900.

The first letter in the gray slot is representing the series of the handset, like: "W" - Walkman; "X"- Xperia; "C" - Cyber-Shot; "R" - Radio and e.t.c.

The number in the second, blue slot shows the range of the device, like: 9...8.../High-End; 7...6...5.../Mid-Range; 4...3...2...1/Low-End.

The third slot contains model version numbers and the last, green slot, shows form-factor of the handset... Very nice.

SE4M.com recently has published pictures of the unknown slider from Sony Ericsson with the prototype number - SE123.

Sliding housing of the device seems to be made of brushed metal, like Sony Ericsson P1i and design of the phone a little bit looks like that of P1i. Small screen and a whole look of this device speaks that the phone belongs to the Low-End range, plus there is no front (3G) camera, but most unusual is that, the phone has no buttons on the sides.

Back side of the phone raises more questions, What is that weird hill in the bottom? That spoils whole design of the handset :(

We can say that modern handsets contain practically everything to satisfy all of our needs. We have everything on the go, we have a phone, we have a pretty good digital camera, video or music player with quality sound, we have the Internet on the go, we have office applications, we have video games, I mean we have practically everything what we need combined in one, little and slim gadget and it looks like that manufacturers are doing everything possible to enhance their capacity and in this case, as we know, human fantasy has no limits :)

Somebody may think - What else? We have everything and it's only stays to enhance the performance of the already existing technologies...

But what about PROJECTOR in your pocket? :D Isn't it fantastic?
Sony Ericsson has filed a patent applications for self adjusting mobile phone projector.

A device includes a projector to project an image onto a surface; a camera to capture a picture of the image while it is being projected onto the surface; and logic to receive the picture and adjust a setting of the projector based on the received picture.

This patent application is about how to use projectors inside handsets and obvious talks about future plans of the manufacturer. I know, I know that Sony Ericsson already has many unrealized patents, but the idea of the projector is not so impracticable and as I know Texas Instruments already has some projects with some success around this idea...

So we only have to wait and see...

As for me I prefer other labels to Sony Ericsson, but usually it can be pretty exotic when it comes to mobile phone speakers. I do like Sonny Ericsson accessories, because they are pretty weird at one end of the spectrum and utterly practical at the other.

Take, for example, its new Active Speaker MAS-100. You just need to connect your phone inside it, zip it up and listen to music on it through the speaker. You can even use any Sonny Ericsson music phone.

Plus, MAS-100 is sand-proof, splash-proof, for those who love working, playing or relaxing outside.

Like every Sonny Ericsson accessories MAS-100 is designed for the modern consumer. It has style in mind, superior sound and fast port that connects an Active Speaker MAS-100 to your phone.

A built in antenna FM radio reception enables you to tune in your favorite station and play it out loud through speakers designed for your phone.

Oh, I almost forgot, the only battery you need to keep your eye on is your phone battery when you use the Active Speaker MAS-100.

Yes, this baby is efficient, cheap and designed for your needs.

It seems that all of the official announcements have been made and it's time to get back to the rumors, leaked pictures of the upcoming phones, e.t.c. :)

Recently new pictures of the Sony Ericsson's new handset have been leaked on the Internet. It looks like that this photo has been taken from some kind of journal or magazine...
So what can we see on the picture and what kind of conclusion can we get from these leaked photos?

The phone is a clamshell and the look of the housing remains that of the handsets from Z Series, "Mobile Web Companion" talks about that the phone is hi-speed Internet enabled and has convenient Internet browser, "Always Know Your Location" talks about that the phone is GPS enabled, the inscription "Bluetooth Car Handsfree" talks about that the phone is equipped with Bluetooth module (I guess A2DP) and I think, the inscription on the top left corner - "Compact Power" means that the phone is at least Mid-Range and not Low-End...

The version of the mysterious Windows Mobile, which is pre-installed on the Sony Ericsson's new handset from new XPERIA/X series - Sony Ericsson X1, has been discovered on the leaked photos of this device...

As you can see, the version of the WM is 6.1, which wasn't announced yet and therefore explains mysteriousness of this system... (It's interesting, what Microsoft's reaction will be on those photos :) )

Besides of the version of the Windows Mobile, on the photos we also can see the type and speed of the CPU, RAM size, flash size, which was also unknown.

So besides of the official specifications, now we know that, Sony Ericsson X1's operating system is based on Windows Mobile 6.1 and is equipped with Qualcomm 7200A - 528Mhz CPU, RAM size is 128MB and Flash size is 256MB, data bus is 32bits.

Sony Ericsson’s new C702 Cyber-shot™ and C902 Cyber-shot™ deliver best-in class picture quality beyond just megapixels.

Sony Ericsson announced two high-performance additions to its popular Cyber-shotTM phone range with the launch of the C702 Cyber-shot™ and C902 Cyber-shot™. The two phones, packed with the latest camera technology, make it effortless to take perfect pictures of those spontaneous moments – day or night, at a bar or the beach – and instantly share them with friends and family.

“The two new Cyber-shot™ phones that we have announced today share certain characteristics. Both phones place ease-of-use and best-in-class picture quality at the heart of their designs,” said Sven Totté, Head of Imaging Marketing at Sony Ericsson. “Yet both appeal to different audiences. One is engineered to let you take more pictures in more places and the other is designed to look as stunning as the pictures it takes.”

Sony Ericsson C702 Cyber-shotTM – Take pictures everywhere

  • Splash and dust resistant* – perfect for your active lifestyle
  • Single-handed camera use – for spur-of-the-moment photos
  • Built-in GPS with location-based imaging – sort and view your photos according to where you took them

Never too extreme
You can use the C702 Cyber-shot™ in a range of different conditions, as its unique design means its both splash and dust resistant*. This means that whether you’re off-road or just off to the mall, your C702 Cyber-shot™ phone can always be at your side wherever you go, whatever you do. After all, the best camera is the one you have with you.

Never miss a shot
The C702 Cyber-shot™ is engineered to let you take pictures in any position. The camera key and the active lens cover are specifically designed and placed so that you can stabilise the 3.2 megapixel camera and capture the moment with one hand - perfect for an active lifestyle. Combine this with steady-grip materials and a wrist-strap provided in-box, and the C702 Cyber-shot™ really is geared to go more places.

Never lost
The C702 Cyber-shot™ integrates GPS and a range of location-based imaging services that really add a new dimension to taking and managing your photos. When you take a picture, information about where you are in the world is automatically added to the image. So you can always share your best moments with your friends and family according to where the shots were taken. Or you can simply sort the picture through your photo gallery on the PC or on the web.

If you are lost on your travels, Google™ Maps for Mobile locates and guides you to where you want to go, enabling you to roam free with confidence. Use GPS to pinpoint your location and then get turn-by-turn voice guidance to your destination. Find your way home or to one of up to 20 million points of interest.

Sony Ericsson C902 Cyber-shot TM – The image and style statement

  • Slim Cyber-shot™ phone with unique slide-out lens cover. Camera-ready in an instant
  • Stand out design – instantly recognisable

Just shoot
With the C902 Cyber-shot™ you just need to slide open the active lens cover and shoot. The Face Detection and Auto Focus capability enables the camera to detect and focus on the face of your subject rather than the background, so that you can take sharp and high quality pictures of your friends.

The Sony Ericsson W980 brings an unrivaled music experience that gives you every excuse to lose yourself in acoustic bliss

Sony Ericsson revealed the W980, a Walkman® phone that promises to get the most out of your music. Its unique audio enhancing technology, together with the Walkman® on Top design, sees the W980 cement Sony Ericsson’s position as a true market leader in the world of music on your mobile.

“The W980 Walkman® phone really sets a new standard for music on your phone,” said Ben Padley, Head of Music Marketing, at Sony Ericsson. “We wanted to design a leading music player that we could combine with a feature-packed phone, all the while pioneering an audio experience that always left you wanting more. The W980 will surpass all expectations.”

W980 Walkman® phone Created with music in mind

Clear audio experience
Superior sound quality lets you enjoy your music as it was meant to be heard
Walkman® on Top
Intuitive music access and control,
Storage solutions
8GB internal memory lets you store up to 8,000 songs*

Be true to the original recording
The W980 Walkman® phone is designed to allow you to listen to music as it should be heard. Clear stereo enables the music to sound like the original recording. Clear bass delivers distortion free sound even at higher volumes. These features combine with the premium headphones, the Stereo Portable Handsfree HPM-77, to deliver an incredible clear audio experience and music that sounds as true as possible to the original recording

Share your music with friends
The W980 Walkman® phone has a built-in FM transmitter, which allows you to send whatever’s playing on your phone to other devices with a built-in FM radio receiver. This gives you the ability to share your music with all those around you, whether through a friend’s hi-fi or your car stereo.
Quality music is made for sharing with the W980. Unplug your headset, sit back and let the music flow through the integrated stereo speakers for all to enjoy. Select a track from the extensive music library – the W980 lets you store up to 8000 songs* – or tune in to your favourite radio station and listen out loud. No need to plug in an FM Receiver, since this is on-board with the W980.

Build your collection every day
With the recent evolution of PlayNow™ arena, Sony Ericsson’s popular over-the-air (OTA) and web download service being launched this May, you will be able to access up to 5 million tracks to maximise your music collection. The W980’s TrackID™ feature, which can identify any track that you just can’t put a name to, will be fully integrated into PlayNow™ arena. This makes the W980 a genuine gateway to great music, as you can download the track instantly once it has been identified.

Customise your sound
You can tailor the W980’s Walkman® player to the music that you’re listening to. This latest Walkman® phone provides a choice of eight equaliser presets, each of which contains a distinct profile that is suitable to a range of music. So whether you’re listening to jazz, pop or heavy metal, you’ve can always choose the best sound for the song.

Control your music at your fingertips
The Walkman® on Top feature on the W980 gives you the full functionality of a Walkman® player without even having to open your phone. The entire Walkman® player that would normally be displayed on the inside of your clamshell is also replicated on the outside of the phone, so navigation through your music library is effortless.

Balance and beat
Every music enthusiast knows that a great audio experience requires great quality speakers or headphones. The W980 Walkman® phone comes with the new Stereo Portable Handsfree HPM-77; a headset that lets you enjoy music in powerful stereo sound. The HPM-77 also allows users to take their calls handsfree, and its sleek design and in-ear wearing-style mean that it’s both comfortable and reduces background noise to the bare minimum.

Whether listening via the headphones or the stereo speakers, the W980 Walkman® phone is a must-have for those who want an unrivalled music experience, which they carry with them every minute of the day. It is a UMTS/HSDPA 2100 GSM/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900 phone that will be available in selected markets from Q3 2008.

The Stereo Portable Handsfree HPM-77 will be available in selected markets from June 2008.
