Sony Ericsson is preparing for a release a new Clamshell handset Sony Ericsson SO706i, which will be available from NTT DoCoMo. This means that yet another great handset goes only for Japan... I in no way understand why all the best handsets go for only Japan, they already have had huge screens, 5MP cameras and all other goodies, while we were waiting for colored screens :D it's metaphorical of course, but the fact is that, Japanese handsets from Sony Ericsson always were much more powerful and better than those for Europe or the US or other markets :( (For example: Sony Ericsson SO905iCS or Sony Ericsson SO903iTV)
So, as I've already said, Sony Ericsson SO706i is made in Clamshell form-factor and features 2.8 inch with 262K colors and a 240x427 pixel resolution internal TFT display and external LEDs for incoming calls, 2MP camera with Auto Focus and video recording, memory expansion of MicroSD memory format, which is able to accept microSD cards up to 2GB, Mobile TV, advanced e-mail and web capabilities, supports Flash Lite 3.0, Google Maps and integrates Google search.
The dimensions of the handset is 105x49x13.4mm and the phone weighs 98 grams. The device is able to work up to 3.6 hours in talk-time mode, up to 290 hours in standby mode and up to 1.67 hours in TV viewing mode.
The launch of the Sony Ericsson SO706i is planed on the 4th of July for the NTT DoCoMo network customers, for retail price of 40000 yen (Up to $377 or 239 Euros) and will come in three color versions: White, Golden pink and Black.
Sony Ericsson announces today that its net sales and net income before taxes in the second quarter of 2008 continue to be negatively affected by moderating demand of mid to highend mobile phones, in combination with a delay of new products shipped during the quarter.
Although final results may differ, Sony Ericsson plans to ship approximately 24 million phones during the second quarter of 2008 with an estimated ASP (Average Selling Price) of EUR 115. Gross margin is expected to decline both year over year and sequentially. Net income before taxes is estimated to be about break-even.
Sony Ericsson plans to announce the second quarter 2008 financial results on July 18 at 7:30 am UK time/8:30 am CET.
With Highest In Overall Customer Satisfaction Performance, Sony Ericsson Continues Leadership with Superior Design and Product Innovation.
For the second consecutive time, Sony Ericsson ranked highest in U.S. overall customer satisfaction performance among wireless mobile phone brands in the 2008 J.D. Power and Associates U.S. Wireless Mobile Phone Evaluation StudySM. Sony Ericsson was previously ranked highest in the same study during periods of 2006 and 2007.
"Achieving the top ranking for performance and quality of our mobile handsets from consumers is an honor and demonstrates our commitment to bring a broad range of world class handsets that both simplify and enrich the wireless communication experience of our U.S. consumers," said Najmi Jarwala, president of Sony Ericsson North America. “Just as this study measures the 'satisfaction experience of handsets,' Sony Ericsson’s long-standing goal is to set the standard for product and application innovation, and to create mobile handsets that lead in design, quality and ease of use. Already, 2008 is proving to be a milestone year for Sony Ericsson in the U.S. with the largest portfolio of handsets fitting a wide range of consumer lifestyles.”
In this 2008 Vol. 1 Mobile Phone Study, Sony Ericsson ranked highest among mobile phone brands with a score of 740, significantly higher than industry average. Sony Ericsson received significantly higher than industry average scores in all factors, which included physical design, operation, features and battery function.
The study measured customers’ satisfaction with wireless handsets based on five key product performance factors, including physical design, operation, features, handset durability and battery function.
Sony Ericsson entered the wireless handset market in 2001 as a joint venture between Sony and Ericsson. Since its inception, the company has released a number of Sony sub-branded handsets, including the Walkman and Cyber-shot brands in 2005 and 2006, respectively. In February 2008, Sony Ericsson launched XPERIA, the first sub-brand born within Sony Ericsson.

Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and NTT DOCOMO announced today their intent to unite Symbian OS™, S60, UIQ and MOAP(S) to create one open mobile software platform. Together with AT&T, LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments and Vodafone they plan to establish the Symbian Foundation to extend the appeal of this unified software platform. Membership of this non-profit Foundation will be open to all organizations. This initiative is supported by current shareholders and management of Symbian Limited, who have been actively involved in its development. Plans for the Foundation have already received wide support from other industry leaders.
To enable the Foundation, Nokia today announced plans to acquire the remaining shares of Symbian Limited that Nokia does not already own and then contribute the Symbian and S60 software to the Foundation. Sony Ericsson and Motorola today announced their intention to contribute technology from UIQ and DOCOMO has also indicated its willingness to contribute its MOAP(S) assets. From these contributions, the Foundation will provide a unified platform with common UI framework. A full platform will be available for all Foundation members under a royalty-free license, from the Foundation’s first day of operations.
Contributions from Foundation members through open collaboration will be integrated to further enhance the platform. The Foundation will make selected components available as open source at launch. It will then work to establish the most complete mobile software offering available in open source. This will be made available over the next two years and is intended to be released under Eclipse Public License (EPL) 1.0.
The Foundation’s platform will build on the leading open mobile software platform, with more than 200 million phones, across 235 models, already shipped by multiple vendors and tens of thousands of third-party applications already available for Symbian OS-based devices.

Starting the tennis season with a dash of glamour and style, the collection was unveiled by Sony Ericsson and one of the world’s most famous tennis players, Maria Sharapova, to a select audience of international lifestyle journalists flown into London for the special occasion.
Maria Sharapova is Sony Ericsson’s first global brand ambassador. The four year agreement was sealed in January 2008 and the Maria Sharapova Design Collection is the first design collaboration campaign to be announced.
“Working on this collection was an opportunity that I could not turn down,” said Maria Sharapova at the unveiling. “Sony Ericsson helped me create a collection of mobile phone accessories that I know people will use. And I wanted to add my touch to each item. People want style, fashion and glamour, and with this collection I know that they’ll have it.
I am looking forward to using the collection with my Sony Ericsson T303 which is equally as stylish and great to listen to music on when I exercise and when I like to relax after a match.”
Some of London’s up and coming faces on the catwalk modelled the season’s fashion look by young urban designers to compliment the Maria Sharapova Design Collection. Louise Roe, stylist and fashion expert, hosted the show and presented the Sony Ericsson mobile phone accessories to leading lifestyle media writers from around the world. The Maria Sharapova Design Collection consists of the IDC-31 Courtside Case, the compact IDC-32 Exercise Case, the IDC-33 Party Bag and the IDC-34 Travel Wallet. The Design Collection is inspired by Maria Sharapova’s own global lifestyle, and the latest fashion trends.
Speaking at the fashion show, Sony Ericsson Designer Lykke Tarsbol said: “It was a pleasure working with Maria on the design of this collection. We wanted to create a collection that represented her life on and off the court. We worked closely to ensure that every item was designed with her and for her.”
As a leading personality not just on the tennis court, but also in the world of style and fashion, Maria Sharapova brought to the project a wealth of fashion knowledge and glamour, by working closely with Sony Ericsson’s design team to create an aspirational collection of accessories.
The Maria Sharapova Design Collection will be available in all markets in Q3.

Today is the 17th of June and Sony Ericsson announced several new handsets, new accessories and couple of new line-ups.
Unfortunately today's announcements have gone by without long awaited UIQ smartphones Beibei and Paris... There also was nothing new about new phones from Walkman line-up but in return for this, Sony Ericsson has confirmed upcoming Cyber-Shot handset with 8.1MP camera with its announcement...
From accessories Sony Ericsson represented the next generation of Bluetooth headsets: Sony Ericsson HBH-PV715, Sony Ericsson HBH-PV720 and Sony Ericsson HBH-PV740 and launched two new dual function USB modems with a built-in memory card reader the MD400 and MD400g with the additional of a built-in GPS unit.
Upcoming SnapShot handset - Sony Ericsson S302 is a low/mid-end handset and will be equipped with 2MP camera with Fixed Focus and LED flash, PhotoFix and will feature video recording... The resolution of its 2" TFT display will be 176x220 pixels. Internal memory will be up to 20MB and will support Memory Stick Micro memory format.
S302 will be Quadband GSM/EDGE phone and will feature Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and USB 2.0 connectivity, FM Radio and will be loaded with TrackID, PlayNOW and NetFront web browse from Access...
The dimensions of the upcoming handsets will be 101 x 46 x 11 (12)mm, and weight will be 79 grams. S302 will be able to work in standby mode for 300 hours and about 7 hours in talk mode...
The announcement of this handset and SnapSot series is expected for tomorrow, but as people are talking, it will be available in early Q4 this year in "Thunder Grey" and "Crystal Blue" color variants.
[Source]
Se4m.com has posted live pics of the recently leaked and yet unannounced upcoming super camera-phone from Cyber-Shot line-up - Sony Ericsson C905...
In these pictures Sony Ericsson C905 is represented in black color and let me tell you... To be honest, I never liked "Slider" phones (I mean the Form-Factor) with the exception of the Sony Ericsson X1 of course :D... But this phone... and in a black color... it's just a beauty.
It's a little bit thicker than we would have wanted, but after all it's not so big problem for a handset with specifications like this one, and the thickness never was a problem for me. Of course I don't like phones like bricks, but this phone is definitely not a brick... I think it will be my first "vertical slider" phone ;)
Depending on this list, unannounced prefix "F" means "FUN" and looks like its opening expected in June on the Singapore event, but what exactly means FUN for Sony Ericsson I don't know. Maybe it's a combination of the music, photo shooting/video recording and web browsing, or maybe it's even gaming? Maybe it's an upcoming gaming platform like Nokia's "N-gage" or even long awaited PSP Phone (Or PSPhone)... Hmmm, I don't know :) I guess we need to wait and see...Well, as you know now is June, the announcements day is approaching and "F" series shows itself one more time over at esato...
This picture made in Photoshop (Made by xell over at esato) and represents max approach look of the first handset from upcoming FUN line-up - Sony Ericsson F305...
Demo video of the recently leaked Walkman branded ClamShell handset from Sony Ericsson with codename "Alicia"...
The hottest leak of the Sony Ericsson C905 has not been cooled down yet, while another leak of the Sony Ericsson's device has hit the Internet.
The codename of this handset is "Alicia" and as we can see on the pictures this phone is from the Walkman line-up, made in a Clam-shell form-factor. Besides of those pictures, there is not much info about its specifications, but we can suppose that the specifications may be very similar to the latest phone from Walkman family Sony Ericsson W980. What we can say for sure that Alicia is 3G enabled, which is confirmed by the front camera for video calls.
Looks like Sony Ericsson was preparing big surprise for us on the 17th of June. The matter is that Sony Ericsson's new super High-End device from Cyber-Shot line-up has been leaked in the Internet :)
Upcoming surprise is Cyber-Shot flagship known as Shiho with final name Sony Ericsson C905 and the surprise is its specifications which is quiet unique and impressive...
Scratch-resistant mineral glass 2.4 inch TFT display with 320×240 resolution, built-in GPS with further support for A-GPS, accelerometer, TV-OUT, built-in WiFi with DLNA-support (OMG), Bluetooth 2.1, supports USB 2.0 and can be synchronized with Exchange ActiveSync. Of course device will be 3G enabled (Tri-band UMTS and HSDPA). Built-in memory is up to ~160 MB and supports Memory Stick Micro (M2) (2GB M2 bundled)...
In standby mode C905 will be able to work about 380 hours or 9 hours in talk time mode on GSM networks, or 360 hours of standby or 4 hours in talk time mode on 3G networks.
The dimensions and weigh of the device will be 104 x 49 x 18 (19.5) mm and 136 grams. It will be available in three color choices: Copper Gold, Ice Silver & Night Black in early Q4.

Not only that, packaging music from a global megastar with new Sony Ericsson phones will help drive sales of music-enabled devices and contribute to the uptake of mobile music. From this month, "HARD CANDY" pre-loaded handsets will be sold in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela.
In a staggered roll-out that began in May, a download voucher for HARD CANDY and an array of additional content including an exclusive “4 Minutes” remix is being ‘bundled’ with purchases of the Sony Ericsson W890 Walkman phone in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden. Sony Ericsson W380i Walkman mobiles in Belgium and Czech Republic are already available with a HARD CANDY CD.

Yet another unannounced phone from Sony Ericsson has been leaked into the Internet and unlike from other recently leaked handsets, this device is obviously from low-end range.
What we can say for sure, is that the device is equipped with a camera, which in logic must be max 1.3 MP, which is defined for phones like this one. By the way, I may be wrong, but I can see some kind of front camera on the right side of the top of the handset. If it's true and it has a front camera, it means that it's a 3G phone, which is very rare for low-end handsets like this one...
The whole design of the housing is simplistic, and the keyboard is some kind of a retro style, unlike of the D-Pad which is quite weird for me for this kind of design...
If you'd ask me, phones like this one are too far from modern demands, even as low-end handset, but of course we should wait for an official or at least some more specs and price of this phone, to come to some conclusion. We can suppose that announcement of this device may be on 17th of June with other leaked phones like Paris or Bei-Bei, and we can suppose that this phone will be oriented for Indian, Chinese or other emerging markets...

Looks like Sony Ericsson continues unveiling Special Edition phones and after Sony Ericsson Z770 - Ducati Edition, Sony Ericsson is going to release Walkman branded Sony Ericsson W760 - MTV Edition...
New edition of the W760 will be available in a couple of weeks in Italy and after that it will follow other European markets... The price of the handset will be up to 300 Euros.
The updates of the Sony Ericsson X1 continues and now, after recently updated specifications, we have some visual updates too...
Looks like Sony Ericsson's upcoming Xperia branded flagman - Sony Ericsson X1, besides of the "Solid Black", will be available in a new color scheme - "Steel Silver"...
OK OK, I know that the new color of the X1 isn't so new as some people are writing in the Internet... There were a couple pictures of this handset besides of the "Solid Black" one in the Internet. For example, If you remember, on the leaked pictures of the Sony Ericsson X1, which were showing the version of the Windows Mobile, the color scheme of the device was "Steel Silver", so basically we knew about it, but it's good to know that it's now official :)
So after the release of this fantastic device, we'll have a choice between these colors: Sony Ericsson X1 in "Solid Black" or Sony Ericsson X1 in "Steel Silver" (With this new color, X1 reminds me Sony Ericsson P1i, don't you think?)
Besides of the new color variant, there are some more updates, like: XPERIA panel key and, or XPERIA logo under the screen :)
Isn't it just a beauty?
